Hi, Dajiahao! I am Begoña, I am from Spain. My Chinese name is Xiao Bei. I began to learn Chinese when I was in college. Then I planned to continue my studies in China after I graduated. At present I am in my own country. Why I chose John Laoshi? The first is because he teaches so well. I think he explains things very clearly. The second aspect, it is because you are learning Chinese which is a little bit complicated. John Laoshi makes me think about Chinese characters as a game…
Since I began to learn from Teacher John, I feel my Chinese level has improved a lot! So now it is your turn. He is waiting for you.

Teacher John helped me improve my Chinese. In addition to Chinese, he also taught me Chinese culture. The thing I really appreciate about John is that he’s got quite a lot of experience teaching Chinese to foreigners. And he kind of knows what it is that you are struggling with, and what is quite confusing about the language. And he also always makes sure to kind of include personal details about his life, which is quite nice. Because being open like that, you are able to kind of get to know John on a personal level as well as you are learning from him.

I am learning HSK 4, and one of the most helpful things about John Laoshi’s classes is that he helps me to better understand how to use vocabulary and different grammar in the correct contexts. I feel like my listening, my reading in particular, and my speaking have all improved.
I think my Chinese is getting better and better. I believe I can get my goal.
– Ben, Teacher from UK
So I live in China about six years. In the past, I live in Singapore, in Hong Kong, in a lot of places. I like John Laoshi very much. He is very good. He is such a fantastic teacher. I feel very lucky to have found him. Initially I went to Dalian and I had a crash course with him there. He is a very patient teacher. He is very helpful, and he really challenges you, so that’s great! Ok, enjoy! Byebye.

I started learning mandarin because I was traveling a lot to China. I attend many sailing events in China and was hoping to become conversationally fluent in Chinese so that I could talk with the many new friends I had made.
I tried to start a regular conversational lesson, here in Sydney, but found it difficult to find a tutor who would be both structured as well as candid.
I watched many YouTube videos to improve my listening skills. While that helped a little. I was struggling to construct sentences with the correct grammar. My pronunciation was poor, especially with the intonation and emphasis.
Since working with John Laoshi, I have built my confidence to a level where I regularly try my Chinese skills with friends in China and Australia. I am very comfortable in constructing sentences, although my vocabulary could use some work.
John Laoshi is a highly accomplished teacher with a wide variety of students. These students come from many countries are of varied ages and backgrounds.
One of the most valuable things that John Laoshi provides me is a view of Chinese life from the perspective of a Chinese resident. This allows me to build a balanced view of China.
– Howard, Lawyer from Australia
I think for three seasons he is a good teacher to recommend. First, he is a skilled instructor. He uses the textbook with the system I really like that, so I can keep track my progress. I think the second reason I found very effective is that he is patient. He repeats things often, which is really helpful to beginner learners like me. And he is particularly patient when it comes to helping me with my Chinese listening. And it is the hardest thing for me. He is willing to repeat things over and over again to make sure I can master what it is that I am supposed to be listening to. Third and maybe most important, John has a really good sense of humor. He is able to keep things right and fun. He makes his corrections right away, but he does it without shaming you making you feel like you should know more than you know…

Nihao. I am Rob, I am an American. I learned Chinese from Wang Laoshi. He is a very good teacher. He is good at explaining Chinese grammar and pronunciation. John is also very funny. He helped improve my ability to hear, speak, read and write Chinese. Teacher Wang’s course is really good.
